If you’re familiar with Bexley, you should know something about this beautiful town’s trees. Having been founded as a village 112 years ago, today the city of Bexley is a quant old historic, tree-lined suburb east of Columbus, along the banks of Alum Creek. Bexley is also near Driving Park and Wolfe Park, and not far east of the Franklin Park Conservatory. Perhaps best known for its large historic houses and estates, located primarily in Bullitt Park, Bexley is where the home of the president of The Ohio State University is located, as well as the Ohio Governor’s Mansion, which is in the northern part of Bexley.
For years, it has been the home to Capital University. The population in 2010, according to census, was 13,057. Bexley is a suburban city in Franklin County, Ohio. Along with municipalities Whitehall, Minerva Park, Upper Arlington, Worthington, and Valleyview, Bexley is considered a geographic enclave of Columbus. It is horizontally split by Main Street, which still serves as a reminder of the city’s origins as a fusion between the eminent Bullitt Park community to the north, and the Lutheran college community of Pleasant Ridge, which was south of Main Street. It gained this accreditation in March of 2013 from the Morton Register of Arboreta, establishing it as the first city in the United States to successfully gain arboretum accreditation. For decades, the city has participated in the Tree City USA program, meticulously cataloguing more than 14,000 trees which the Bexley City forester manages inside the town’s right-of-ways and public parks. In the coming years, the city plans to continue the curation of Bexley’s extensive collection of more than 100 unique species of trees.
